What paint can kids use to paint a rain barrel?

Hubby likes to garden, but in FL you need tons of water. So I thought a rain barrel would make a great Father’s Day gift. I have seen rain barrels hand painted. But in my internet research the only paint suggestions I can find is the Krylon spray paint for plastic. I really don’t want the kids using spray paint. What kind of paint would you suggest for a plastic rain barrel?

Laytex will only last a couple of years then peel…the only other thing there is that might stick to plastic is enamel..and you don’t want kids using enamel..unless they wear gloves. It uses paint thinner to clean up with.
