need to paint house previousely used a coloring agent &linseed oil?

house is covered with cedar shakes , previousely they tell me painted with a mixture of linseed oil & a coloring agent. i already purchased the exterior sears weatherbeater latex paint. will this hold will it peel off do i use some special primer first , any help appreciated.
