Interior design question - painting my attic bedroom?

Posted by admin
notmelast asked:

my bedroom is in the attic, is measures 20′ x 12′. Its rather spacious, but what makes it difficult is the fact that is has a sloped ceiling on one side, and the a single window at each end. The sloped ceiling can make it feel smaller, and the lack of windows doesn’t allow much light. I very much need to paint (its white right now) and want to do a contrasting wall in a deep red color. The contrasting wall would be the wall opposite the slanted ceiling (the one where my head board would be). The rest of the walls, to keep things bright, I was thinking of doing in a bright orange-gold color. Now here is where things get complicated. To visually lift the sloped ceiling, I am thinking of painting the two foot high straight wall below it with verticle stripes alternating the same orangy-gold with a one that is one shade lighter. My question is, should I continue the lighter or the darker of the golds throughout the rest of the room, should the ceiling be the darker or the lighter?
