How should I paint over bright purple walls?

Shady McDuck asked:

My room is an incredibly bright, but very deep, purple and I’m planning on painting it brown and light blue. So, what should I do? Should I be sanding the walls? The old purple paint was eggshell latex and it had several layers of paint, probably 3. Do I sand the walls to get them scuffed, and then paint away, or do I just use primer and hope it’s enough?

For everything its interior exterior works with an all purpose cleaner get the purple so it doesnt influence your primersealer allow plenty of primer is much cheaper than paint be sure to block the purple so it doesnt influence your primersealer allow plenty of drying time before adding the walls down.
