How should I paint an old indoor wrought iron railing?

Paint you might want to re prime and you wont have to re prime and you might want to try rustoleum product called hammerite it real nice look to it check it will do.
For yourself ideas as long as long as long as there is no rust or flaking of old paint you wont have to it will do the trick good luck les the painter.
