How late in the season is it okay to paint a house in New England?

I live in Connecticut, and a porch demolition and house painting project has been delayed by change of contractor. New contractor should be able to begin on Monday Oct 20th. It will take about 2 weeks, with the outside painting as the last part of the project. I really want/need to get it done, even though late in season, but wondered about some guidelines for making the decision. Any input appreciated. thank you.
