Is it possible to remove acrylic paint from canvas without damaging the rest of the painting?

My husband is painting a picture for his parents for Christmas and has messed up a small part of the painting, He’s tried painting over it, but can’t get the right shade anymore. He’s using acrylics. Is there a way to remove that small area of paint, without damaging the rest of the painting so that he can redo it?
